Hitting the road in 2018/19, are two of the most exciting TYA productions to play NYC in the last 10 years: MAD LIBS LIVE! and POLKADOTS: THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL!
Based off the “world’s most popular word game,” MAD LIBS LIVE! follows four teenagers from Blankville Central High School, with little in common, come together to form a singing group for the sole purpose of winning the title, “Teen Superstars” so they can each realize their individual dreams. The musical is set during the live, televised competition, which is also when the teens realize that each of the songs they are about to sing have words missing, and so they have enlisted the audience to help fill in the blanks. The show not only focuses on grammar and parts of speech, reinforcing the CORE English standard curriculum, but it also teaches teamwork,, recognizing that each member of the team brings a special talent.
POLKADOTS: THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL! follows 8-year-old Lily Polkadot who just moved to the “Squares Only” small town of Rockaway. As the first Polkadot in an all Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying to segregated drinking fountains, Lily’s quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polkadot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship. Lily’s story teaches us all that uniqueness is nothing to be ashamed of…it should be celebrated! These shows are the perfect double-billed tour with each show teaching teamwork and identity of self, reinforcing the educational themes found in every classroom today.
Both MAD LIBS LIVE! & POLKADOTS! have contemporary pop scores, filled with catchy tunes and youthful lyrics, delivering fun and exciting stories for children of all ages.
Both shows also share similar production needs, with the same size cast, making it easy to present two different titles within the same tour stop. With Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical focusing on ages 4 and up and Mad Libs Live! targeting ages 7 and up, each title brings in a new demographic.
